The amount of money a company makes is the product of its earns (the amount of money made on a transaction) and turns (the frequency of transactions). This distinction becomes important when considering how to maximize profit. For example, would a grocery store benefit more from selling an additional ten cartons of milk a day (increasing turns), or by raising the price of each carton of milk by five cents (increasing earns)?
